Hi Jorge! Let's start things off with a bit about you. Can you give us an introduction to who you are, and what you do?
My name is Jorge, and I am the owner of MEJ Business Solutions. We are an accounting firm that works closely with small and medium-sized business owners. We strive to provide financial clarity through high-value accounting and bookkeeping and clear communication.

What are some of your favorite things about being an accountant?
Ever since I was young, I have liked helping people and liked numbers. I think that being an accountant is the perfect marriage of my favorite skills. As an accountant, I like helping people with their financial responsibilities!
What was it that initially drew you to the accounting profession?
Accounting has been in my family for 3 generations now! My grandparents are accountants, my father is an accountant, and now I am an accountant. I would say it is the family business.
Many business owners underestimate the importance of accounting. So tell us, why do you believe that accounting is so important for business owners?
Accounting is important because it helps track revenue and expenses, and lets owners (and other investors) track how their money is being used. Through accounting, owners can quantify how well their business is performing. Accounting helps businesses make informed decisions and allows them to leverage their financial status.
How does having a professional accountant benefit a business owner, versus doing bookkeeping/accounting tasks on their own?
Having a professional accountant allows business owners with the day-to-day operations by providing financial analysis. The analysis will help with making informed decisions on their business. Untrained personnel would not understand how to properly classify all the intricate information, from government regulations to margin analysis. If not done properly businesses can lose a large amount of money.
